Plan is to strengthen its role "as a recognized leader in
distance and distributed teaching and learning, research and
scholarship, and outreach."

In 1997, during the initial planning stages of Virginia
Tech’s distance education efforts, 34 administrative and
academic barriers to delivering instruction through distance
and distributed learning methodologies were identified. All
have been fully or partially resolved.

support the university’s distance education efforts and

NON-CREDIT ONLINE COURSES TO VIRGINIA TECH ALUMNI
VTalumnNET is an innovative distance-education,
alumni-outreach program at Virginia Tech. As noted on its
Web site, VTalumnNET "provides a virtual gateway to lifelong
learning for Virginia Tech alumni."

CUNY SEES INCREASED DEVELOPMENT OF BLENDED LEARNING
ENVIRONMENTS AS IT ADOPTS ONLINE EDUCATION
The adoption of blended learning environments in higher
education (defined here as courses that have at least
one-third of its instruction held online and the rest held
in a traditional, face-to-face mode), or "hybrids," as they
are often called, can be considered a natural evolution of
educational technology.
