For this special issue of Educational Pathways I had the
pleasure of communicating with 11 education organization
leaders (listed below). Trying to capture the true essence
of the collective communication I had with these highly
knowledgeable educators was a tremendous challenge.

THE MAINSTREAMING OF DISTANCE EDUCATION AND ONLINE TEACHING
AND LEARNING
I found that supporters of distance education, in general,
seem to like this term - "mainstreaming" - because it lends
a relatively new level of insight to discussions about all
these interesting and exciting online teaching and learning
environments that are being fully developed and implemented
inside higher education institutions today.

FREE ONLINE COMMUNITY-BUILDING SERVICE ATTRACTING BIG CROWD
OF EDUCATORS
Since launching its online community-building services in
November 2002, an innovative company called LearningTimes
Network (LTN) has brought together 3,000 educators and
growing (at press time) inside its flagship, free-to-join
"open-community for education-minded people."

WHAT VENDORS HAD TO SAY, IN 100 WORDS OR LESS
We asked approximately 70 education technology vendors
(which is not nearly an exhaustive list, and we apologize to
those we did not include) to give us a 100-word synopsis
about the key points of their products and services. We also
asked that they not provide press-release responses and to
possibly include a quote from a company executive.
